Photos and photo Captions
Photo captions are an integral part of newspaper storytelling, but they are often the most underdeveloped element in the mix of words, graphics, and photographs in a newspaper. A poorly executed caption can destroy the message of a photo or the story package of which it is part. The reader/viewer expects nothing less than accurate, complete, and informative information, including captions.
Word Origin and History for caption
From 17c. used especially in law, and there via its appearance at the headof legal document involving seizure ( "Certificate of caption", etc.), theword's sense was extended to "the beginning of any document;" thus"heading of a chapter or section of an article" (1789), and, especially inU.S., "description or title below an illustration" (1919).
